About Shiatsu

Shiatsu is an ancient healing art-form originating from China. It evolved over centuries from the Chinese practice of Anma. Following its spread to Japan, Shiatsu developed further and a new form called Zen Shiatsu was born. Continuing to spread far and wide throughout the world, Shiatsu contiues to grow and develop today.

When we suffer stress, tension, shock or trauma, the body's internal energy flow known as 'Chi' (or 'Qi') becomes imbalanced, causing us to become more susceptible to illness.

Shiatsu is an Oriental healing art-form based on the treatment of meridian lines and pressure points, which release stress and tension from the body, whilst also bringing about a balanced and harmonious state within the recipient.

The aim of Shiatsu is to therefore unblock the flow of the body's 'Chi' by applying pressure to specific points along the body, including the palms, finger tips, thumbs, elbows, knees and feet.

All Shiatsu massages and therapies are practiced fully clothed, with the recipient lying on a Futon on the floor.
